Greenhound Energy – Privacy Policy

At Greenhound Energy, LLC (the “Company,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), we respect and protect the privacy of our customers (“you,” “customer,” or “your”) and website visitors. We have created this “Privacy Policy” to demonstrate our firm commitment to your right of privacy, and further describe our practices for how your personal information is collected and used. This Privacy Policy applies to information that we may collect and maintain about you when you visit www.greenhoundenergy.com (the “Site”) and use our quote solicitation platforms, message forums and other resources (we refer to the Site and such resources, collectively, as “Greenhound”). By using Greenhound you expressly consent to the collection, use and disclosure of your information as described below.

Greenhound is not intended for individuals under the age of eighteen (18) years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from persons under the age of eighteen (18) years old. If we suspect that a user of the Site is under the age of eighteen (18) years old or is otherwise using Greenhound in violation of any term or condition set forth in our posted terms of use, we will terminate such user’s account and delete all of such user’s personal information.

Please review this Privacy Policy periodically as we may modify it from time to time, which modifications are effective once posted on the Site. Each time you visit the Site or provide us with information, you are accepting the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

Information Collected

We collect and maintain specific types of information when you access Greenhound. We may collect: (i) registration information, including, without limitation, user names and passwords; (ii) identifying information, including, without limitation, your contact information, collected when you use or access, or set up an account with, Greenhound, postal addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, certain financial information, and social security numbers, employer identification numbers, or other taxpayer identification numbers (“Customer Information”); (iii) demographic information, including, without limitation, zip codes, hometowns, genders, age/birth dates, browsing history information, searching history information, and registration history information (“Demographic Information”); (iv) information you post on Greenhound or about transactions between Greenhound users, including, without limitation, information concerning payment information; (v) the content of communications sent to us; (vi) aggregated information about the use of Greenhound to evaluate our customers’ preferences, improve our programming, and facilitate reporting of Internet usage; (vii) web logs and other standard data entries, including, without limitation, your IP address, page URL and timestamp; (viii) device and application IDs; (ix) location information; (x) information you provide concerning the physical attributes of your property, and your utility accounts (“Property Information”); and (xi) data about visitors to Greenhound who may not be our users. You have the option of not providing us with any of the foregoing information, in which case you may still be able to access some portions of Greenhound, although you may not be able to access certain Greenhound services or features. Any information you post on Greenhound or on our message forums is available and viewable by the public; and as such, Greenhound has no control over how this information will be used.

In addition to reading content that is publicly available at the Site, visitors to the Site, including users who are not registered users of Greenhound, may obtain certain information by indicating the precise location of their properties on a photographic map. If you provide us with information concerning the location of your property, including, without limitation, its street address, the city or town in which it is located, and your ZIP Code, such information may be shared with third parties in order to render estimates and/or to deliver or promote the resources, services, and functionalities hosted by Greenhound. Such location information may also be shared with (i) Channel Partners (as defined below) and third-parties to market products and services related to Greenhound, (ii) third-parties to improve the user experience of the Site, and (iii) academic and research institutions, the sponsors of grant programs, and with other public and privately-owned entities that wish to learn more about the various markets that are served by Greenhound. Greenhound will also deliver such location information to third-party service providers if you (i) specifically request or instruct Greenhound in writing to deliver your address information to one or more third party service providers, or (ii) you register as a user and use Greenhound to make your address information available to one or more third-party service providers.

If you email us, we may keep your message, email address, and contact information to respond to your message. In certain instances, our response may be provided to other Greenhound users or third-parties as necessary to address certain problems, comments, and requests.

We do not record the names or email addresses of visitors who do not register as Greenhound users unless such users subscribe to receive information via electronic mail.

We may disclose Property Information to Channel Partners or third-party service providers to provide you with price quotations for energy-related systems and services and to market other products and services. We may also share aggregated Property Information with academic and research institutions, the sponsors of grant programs, and with other public and privately-owned entities that wish to learn more about the various markets that are served by Greenhound.

To protect children’s personal information and to meet the standards of the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act, we do not knowingly collect any personal information from persons under the age of thirteen (13) that can be used to specifically identify them and the Company does not permit persons under the age of thirteen (13) to use Greenhound.

Uses and Disclosures of Customer, Property, Demographic and Other Information

Your Customer Information will be kept confidential and will be used to support your relationship with us. Except as otherwise set forth in this Privacy Policy, we will not sell, rent or lease to others your Customer Information. We use your Customer Information to help us efficiently operate Greenhound, to contact you in connection with your transactions and other activities in connection with Greenhound (including, but not limited to, confirmation emails or important news that could affect your relationship with us), to forward messages to you from other Greenhound users, and to manage your account and provide you with customer support. Communications to you in connection with such uses are known as “Operational Communications.” By registering with Greenhound, you are agreeing to receive Operational Communications. We may also use your Customer Information to: (i) prevent prohibited or illegal activities on Greenhound; (ii) customize, measure and improve Greenhound, its content and advertising; (iii) inform you of changes to this Privacy Policy and the “Terms of Use” (as posted on the Site); and (iv) enforce our rights under our agreements with you.

Under certain circumstances, Customer Information may be subject to disclosure pursuant to judicial or other government subpoenas, warrants, or orders. In such circumstances, you agree the Company may disclose such information to the extent necessary to comply with such legal requirement.

To operate Greenhound, including supporting your activities on Greenhound, we may share your Customer Information, Property Information and Demographic Information with our Channel Partners (as defined below), and with our network of product manufacturers, independent installers and contractors, lenders and other financial institutions for the purpose of providing you with price quotations for energy-related products and services, and marketing other products and services.

From time to time we enter into partnerships with for-profit companies and firms, non-profit organizations, municipalities and other governmental entities, and employers (collectively “Channel Partners”), that wish to offer their customers, clients, members, constituents, or employees the resources and services provided by Greenhound. Our Channel Partners host hyperlinks on certain of their own web pages that permit their customers, clients, members, constituents, or employees to access web pages at the Site that have been customized for their use. Channel Partners may also publish the URLs for these customized Site web pages in printed promotional materials and in emails and social medial posts they may deliver or transmit to you. Pursuant to our agreements with these Channel Partners, we may share with them the Customer Information you provide when you become a Registered User at the Site. If you are affiliated with one of our Channel Partners, and access a page at the Site customized for your use via a link or URL that has been provided by that Channel Partner, we encourage you to contact that Channel Partner directly to learn more about their privacy policies and practices, and to find out how they may use the information we share with them.

If you use Greenhound to solicit proposals from third party service providers, we will record the equipment offerings and price quotations you receive in response to your solicitation. We use this non-personal information to aggregate market data. Any price quotation that you receive may be reported to other Greenhound users, but that price quotation, if reported to other Greenhound users, will be reported anonymously, and may only be associated with your ZIP Code. Unless you affirmatively choose to report the amount you paid for your energy-related products and services, the equipment choices you selected, and/or the financing options you agreed upon (“Purchase Information”) in connection with your name or address, we will not publish Purchase Information in connection with your name or your address. We may, however, share Purchase Information in connection with your name and address with Channel Partners, affiliates, and third-party service providers. In addition, we may share aggregated, non-personally identifiable Purchase Information with academic and research institutions, the sponsors of grant programs, and with other public and privately-owned entities that wish to learn more about the various markets that are served by Greenhound.

We employ payment intermediary services such as Stripe™ and PayPal™ and Google Checkout™ to receive payment from users, and do not request or store any of your financial information, such as your bank routing or account numbers, or your debit or credit card account numbers.

Following termination or deactivation of your account with Greenhound, we may retain information, including profile information and Customer Information, for a reasonable time for backup, audit, or regulatory purposes, or to fulfill a legal requirement.

Special Cases in which We Share Personal and Password Information

Your information may be provided to a third party in connection with a merger, sale, or acquisition, or a bankruptcy. Also, we may disclose your information when we determine that such disclosure is necessary to comply with applicable law, to cooperate with law enforcement, or to protect the interests or safety of the Company or visitors to or users of Greenhound. In such circumstances, you agree we may disclose your information to the extent necessary. Also, we may disclose your information to affiliated legal entities and businesses with whom we are under common corporate control. Whenever your information is disclosed under this paragraph, we may also disclose such information on a non-anonymous basis. All of our affiliated legal entities and businesses that receive your information from us will comply with the terms of this Privacy Policy with respect to their use and disclosure of such information.

How We Use Demographic Information

We may review all Demographic Information. We may use Demographic Information, in addition to uses set forth above, to tailor Greenhound and related communications to your interests, and to display targeted advertising that may be relevant to you.

Use of Other Users’ Information

By using Greenhound, you agree that, with respect to other users’ Customer Information that you obtain through your use of Greenhound, you will only use such information for: (i) Greenhound-related communications that are not unsolicited commercial messages; and (ii) any other purpose that such user expressly agrees to after adequate disclosure of such purpose. Under no circumstances may you disclose Customer Information of another user to any third-party without our consent and the consent of such other user.

Similarly, if you use Greenhound, your email address and certain other information you choose to add to your profile may be accessible to other users.

Third Party Communications

Greenhound may contain links to websites operated by third-parties. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of any third-party websites. Users and visitors who link to third-party websites from Greenhound should check the privacy and security policy statements of such third-party websites to understand the policies and practices of such third-party websites as we are not responsible for those policies and practices.

Further, when you are involved in a transaction as a result of your use of or access to Greenhound, each party involved in such transaction may obtain access to certain information related to the other party including, but not limited to, such other party’s name, email address, phone number and other contact and location information. We cannot guarantee the privacy or security of your information when you deal with such third-parties. Except as otherwise expressly set forth herein, this Privacy Policy addresses only the use and disclosure of information the Company collects from you. If you disclose your information to others on Greenhound or other sites on the Internet, you do so at your own risk as different rules may apply to their use or disclosure of such information. The Company does not control the privacy policies of third-parties, and you may be subject to the privacy policies of those third-parties where applicable.

Control, E-mail and Opt-Out

If you establish a customer account with Greenhound, you retain sole control of the Customer Information related to your account. Accordingly, you may add, delete, modify or update your Customer Information at any time by: (i) accessing your account settings; (ii) email sent to info@greenhoundenergy.com; or (iii) mail sent to Greenhound at PO Box 189, Chapel Hill, NC, 27514.

If you receive one or more e-mails from us, it means one of two things: (i) your e-mail address is on our list of customers or prospective customers; or (ii) you have provided us your e-mail address so that we could contact you. If you believe you receive an email from us in error, please contact us immediately at info@greenhoundenergy.com.

We provide you with the opportunity to opt-out of receiving communications from us at any point in time. If you wish to cease receiving e-mails and other communications from us (other than Operational Communications), you can opt-out of by contacting us at info@greenhoundenergy.com.

Security of the Information Collected

We use technical, administrative, and physical security measures to protect against the loss, misuse and alteration of data under our control. No data transmissions over the Internet, however, are guaranteed to be completely secure. While we strive to protect your data from unauthorized use or disclosure, the Company does not warrant or guarantee the security of the data that you provide to us.

Cookies

Cookies are files that web browsers place on a computer’s hard drive to tell site owners whether an individual has interacted with the website previously. The Company uses cookies to recognize repeat visits by users of the Site and to collect information about our users’ interactions with and within Greenhound. The use of cookies enables us to make your experience with Greenhound easier and more meaningful.

There are two types of cookies: session-based cookies and persistent-based cookies. Session cookies exist only during an online session. They disappear from your computer when you close your browser software or turn off your computer. Persistent cookies remain on your computer after you have closed your browser or turned off your computer. They include such information as a unique identifier for your browser. Standing alone, cookies do not contain personal data, and therefore do not identify you personally; they merely recognize your browser. Unless you choose to identify yourself to the Company by using Greenhound, you will remain anonymous to the Company.

From time to time, we may engage third-parties to track and analyze non-personally identifiable usage and volume statistical information from visitors to the Site to help us administer the Site and improve its quality. Such third-parties may use cookies to help track visitor behavior, including visitor responsiveness to online advertisements. Such cookies will not be used to associate individual Site visitors with any personal data. Except as otherwise set forth in the Terms of Use, all data collected by such third-parties on our behalf is used only to provide us with information on Site usage and will not be shared with any other third-parties.

The cookies we use do not transmit personally identifiable information to us or to our service providers. Third-party advertisers on the Site may also place or read cookies on your browser. By adjusting your browser settings, you have the ability to disable cookies and you may still use the Site; however, you may have limited access to some features and functionalities of Greenhound.

We may also use other standard internet technologies including, but not limited to, pixel tags and web beacons, to track visitors to the Site. These technologies also help us to gather information including, but not limited to, the number of visitors to the Site, how visitors arrived at the Site, and the pages those visitors accessed. This information also helps us to improve the appearance and content of the Site and enhances the functionality of Site resources.

Use of Google Analytics, Adwords and Remarketing

Greenhound may use Google Analytics and similar web analytics services. Google Analytics is used to track unregistered users on the Site, to record multiple visits by unregistered users to the Site, and to record all the pages that unregistered users visit at the Site. If and when an unregistered user registers with the Site, all of his or her previous visits and activity on the Site will be associated with their registered user profile. Google Analytics tracks registered users’ visits to the Site whenever they return.

Greenhound will not (and will not allow any third party to) use Google Analytics to track, collect or upload any data that personally identifies an individual (such as a name, address, or billing information), or other data that can reasonably be linked to such information by Google.

Greenhound may use all features of Google Analytics for Display Advertisers. That includes obtaining specific visitor cookie data, such as the source, medium, and keyword used to visit the Site. Google Analytics does not store any visitor-specific data, and Greenhound will not use specific data regarding users in any way related to Google Analytics, Google Adwords, and Remarketing.

Greenhound may use remarketing with Google Adwords and analytics to display content-specific advertisements to users that have previously visited the Site when those visitors go to other websites that have Google Display Network implemented.

Greenhound and other third-party vendors, including Google, use first-party cookies (such as the Google Analytics cookie) and third-party cookies (such as the DoubleClick cookie) together to inform, optimize, and serve ads based on users’ past visits to the Site.

Greenhound will not facilitate the merging of personally identifiable information with non-personally identifiable information that is collected through any Google advertising product or feature unless you have specifically and affirmatively provided Greenhound with your consent to that merger of personally identifiable and non-personally identifiable information.

Users can opt-out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising and customize Google Display Network ads using Google’s Ads Settings.

Users can also opt-out of Google Analytics for Display Advertising, to prevent your data from being used by Google Analytics, by going to the Google Analytics opt-out page.

Whenever your non-personal information is used or is stored together with your personal information, it will be treated as personal information.
